UNIROYAL Optoelectronics is focused
on High Brightness Light Emitting Diode (LED)Compound
Semiconductors: their quantum physics, composition,
die design, high volume processing, characterization,
testing and corresponding sale of high quality
Epitaxial and Die derivatives.
UNIROYAL
Optoelectronics has assembled world class internal
research & development (IR&D), production Metal
Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD) epitaxial
foundry, semiconductor device fabrication, LED
die processing and testing facilities and personnel
within the Florida High-Tech Corridor. UNIROYAL
Optoelectronics 77,000 square foot facility is
designed and equipped with state-of-the-art automated
factory management and LED processing capabilities. This
enables world competitive product results incorporating
the latest technologies allowing UNIROYAL Optoelectronics
to be the industry ’s low-cost, high quality supplier
of choice for High Brightness LEDs.
The
company’s POWER-Ga(i)N™ InGaN/Al2O3 high-power
technology, provides the best in Visible (from
450 thru 525 nm) and UltraViolet (365 thru 430
nm) high performance LED solutions, while
the UOE POWER-BR(ite)™ AlInGaP/GaAs technology
fills out the color spectrum (from 590 thru 636
nm) with leading-edge HB-LED product results.
A full range of Package-Ready-Die (PRD)™ testing,
characterization and bare die binning, utilizing
the company ’s unique LEDProbe™ and LEDSort™ capabilities,
complements the products offered with value added
services.
Personnel of the UNIROYAL Optoelectronics
team encompass many industry recognized experts
and scientists experienced in material growth,
characterization and device development. UNIROYAL
also has active external R&D activities, especially
within the University of Florida (Gainesville,
Orlando & Tampa) system, including the Materials
Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical
Engineering and Physics Centers and the Center
for Research & Education in Optics & Lasers (CREOL).
Utilizing the company’s extensive knowledge in
III-V (Periodic Table of Elements Group III and
Group V Compounds) Materials Science and MOCVD
Reactor systems, UNIROYAL is producing epitaxial
device wafers one atomic layer at a time, into
exceptional high volume production full spectrum
Visible and Ultra Violet bandwidth LED products.
Specifically InGaN on Sapphire and AlInGaP on
GaAs devices are produced. These advanced Wide
Band Gap LEDs (GaN, EG = 3.4 eV & AlN, EG = 6.2
eV) are produced on the company’s high throughput
multi-wafer MOCVD Vertical Rotating Disc (VRD)
reactors equipped with real-time in situ characterization,
monitoring and control features. A rigorous manufacturing
methodology compliments this technology through
device fabrication and test.
A complete and unique set of product performance
and quality surveillance characterization capability
provides detailed structural, optical and electrical
analysis and assessment of products produced.
Tools include Triple-Axis X-Ray Diffraction, WLS
Thickness & Photoluminescence (HeCd & Frequency
Doubled YAG) Mapping, Wide Band Gap Electrochemical
C-V Profiling, Hall Measurement, Field Emission
Scanning Electron Microscope (FE-SEM), Electron
Beam Induced Current (EBIC) Measurement, Non-Contact
Sheet Resistivity Mapping, Electroluminescence
Measurement, and Phase Contrast Microscopy. These
and other dedicated facilities also serve the
Company’s IR&D/R&D activities including New Product
&Process Development Engineering.
The Information Technology (IT) activity at UNIROYAL
incorporates a variety of activities that support
all functions of the company facilitating its
operations. Of special note is a factory-wide
automated management system that includes Manufacturing
Execution System (MESA), SAP Engineering Resource
and Materials Resource Planning (ERP, MRP) and
other relational databases. This key activity
is used extensively by productivity review, sustaining
engineering, uality, product planning and development
activities.
UNIROYAL TECHNOLOGY is well known for its innovative
technologies, manufacturing excellence and the
quality of its products. UNIROYAL Optoelectronics
has installed an Electronic-Based ISO 9001/9002
System scheduled for certification completion
the first quarter of 2001.
